When Chef Carl Casper (Jon Favreau) is a comedy coming out tomorrow in Guelph telling the story of a Chef who suddenly quits his job at a prominent Los Angeles restaurant after refusing to compromise his creative integrity for its controlling owner (Dustin Hoffman). Not knowing what to do next, he finds himself in Miami, and teams up with his ex-wife (Sofia Vergara), his friend (John Leguizamo), and his son to launch a food truck. Taking to the road, Chef Carl goes back to his roots to reignite his passion for the kitchen—while using social media as a true partner in its success.
Thinking of the story line, while simotaneously receiving an email from my website gal today reminding me that “Easter’s blog” was a bit too long ago…..I have to chuckle about the idea of a Chef who really has the time to keep up with social media. While the stock is on, we are “mise en placing,” menu planning, creating new catering menus, ordering fresh products for this week’s production, getting to know local farmers who can deliver us the freshest of produce, planning cooking classes, and of course ensuring that all of our fridges and equipment maintain the utmost of cleanliness, social media updates are hard to keep up with. I’ve worked hard the past three months to figure out how to ‘sign in’ and remember passwords, to ‘tweet’ daily about what we are doing, figure out how to upload videos and have the first clue about the difference between file formats of my logo that media folks want sent to them for advertising!
It’s been a long time since I’ve gone to the movies but I think I’ll go this weekend to see Chef and if anyone wants to join me, chime in on FB. I can’t stand listening to people chomp on popcorn behind me with their mouths open, cell phones going off and chatter going on that is totally distracting, but I do love my movie popcorn as long as the REAL butter is layered and not all placed on top which just makes a ‘soggy mess!’ Yum……let me know how your weekend shapes up and if you venture out to see this apparently inspiring movie about seeking out your passion. I’m very grateful to have found mine in the Village of Erin!
